Abstract
The present study demonstrates the enhancement of antitumor activity o f SN-38, which is one of the key drugs of chemotherapy for lung cancer , by Hochu-Ekki-to(TJ-41, a herbal medicine) in two human lung cancer cell lines. TJ-41 by itself at high concentrations possessed only negl igible activity on the human lung cancer cells used. However, treatmen t by TJ-41 for 36 h followed by SN-38 for 36 h resulted in 4.5 to 8.9- fold reduction in the SN-38 IC50 values in these cell lines. Our resul ts suggested that TJ-41 might enhance the antitumor activity of SN-38.
