The future of the Middle East and North Africa will be determined by p
rogress on economic reform, political participation and the emergence
of a strong identity rooted in the region's history but open to the re
st of the wet-Id. This article presents two vary different tales of th
e regional ''neighborhood'' in the year 2010 as a heuristic device to
illustrate the possible future outcomes for the region of policy choic
es made today.
