The results of electrical resistance (rho), magnetoresistance (Delta r
ho/rho) and magnetization (M) measurements are reported for polycrysta
lline SmMn2Ge2. Sharp variations in rho at 108 and 142 K attributable
to well-known magnetic transitions from Mn sublattice are noted. Sign
of the rho across these transitions exhibits anomalies. Delta rho/rho
data indicate the existence of a hitherto unrecognized magnetic anomal
y near 30 K, presumably of ferrimagnetic type as revealed by isotherma
l M data at low temperatures.
