A relationship between the surface convection associated with local su
rface-tension gradients (Marangoni effect) and turbulent pulsations is
considered. An energy balance equation is used to evaluate the veloci
ty of near-surface convective patterns. The model is based on the assu
mption that the local surface-tension gradients are induced by surface
chemical reactions of surfactants that takes place in the fluid movin
g along the surface in two-dimensional roll-like cells. The model obta
ined makes it possible to calculate the rate of interphase mass transf
