The cobalt(II), two different nickel(II) and zinc(II) complexes of 2-(
diphenylphosphinyl)-2-phenyl-ethenol 1 (compounds 2-5) are synthesized
and characterized by IR, electronic and EPR spectra as well as by mag
netochemical methods. The complexation of 1 with the corresponding met
al halides leads to L2M complexes (L = Ph2P(O)CPh = CHO 2: M = Co, 3:
M = Ni, 4: M = Zn), where Co(II) and Ni(II) ions are in octahedral coo
rdination. In the complex formed with nickel (II) acetate tetrahydrate
the metal is coordinated by both phosphoryl and acetate group (5: LL'
Ni, L' = CH3COO-) and on the base of mu(eff) tetrahedral coordination
is suggested. According to the C-13 and (31)p Nh IR data the zinc com
plex 5 is a mixture of (Z)- and (E)-isomers.
