Abstract
Oil film forces of the squeeze-film damper are highly nonlinear functi ons of the displacement and velocity of the shaft. Three numerical met hods are introduced to predict the dynamic characteristics of this non linear system. The fast integration method is very efficient in calcul ating the transient and steady state responses. The harmonic balance m ethod can be used to predict steady state responses of both synchronou s and nonsynchronous (subharmonic and superharmonic) components. The s imple iteration method is suitable to calculate the circular concentri c orbits. The method can be chosen according to the practical need. (C ) 1998 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights reserved.
