Abstract
Ln this paper we develop an a posteriori error estimate for viscoelast ic how calculations using spectral elements. The error estimate is com pared with the 'exact' error obtained by computing the difference betw een the numerical solution and a reference calculation for the benchma rk problem of viscoelastic how past a rigid sphere in a tube.
