Abstract
Various aspects of the concept of a hierarchical structure of material s are analyzed with a view to practical applications. It is shown that the principal complications can be removed if the hierarchical struct ure is represented by a block diagram that contains a block of mesosco pic layers. One way of theoretically describing the structure of mesod isordered media is demonstrated.
