Presented herein is a complete solution to the normal plane strain ind
entation of a double shearing dilatant granular material by a smooth r
igid wedge. The stress and velocity fields, resistance to penetration,
and contact stress are compared with those of materials obeying (i) t
he incompressible double shearing theory, and (ii) the Mohr-Coulomb as
sociated flow rule.
