Abstract
A rather simple (yet general) theoretical analysis is presented concer ning the steady-state particle size distribution in combined aggregati on-fragmentation processes. The general conditions are provided for th is distribution to exhibit self-similar behaviour. The theory is appli ed to the case of turbulent aggregation-fragmentation of fractal parti cles. It is shown that by using this analysis, experimental data can b e interpreted without resorting to a numerical solution of the populat ion balance equation. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd.
