D. Weinberger et al., INTRAVITREAL GAS INJECTION FOR HYPOTONY AFTER CATARACT-SURGERY, Journal of cataract and refractive surgery, 24(11), 1998, pp. 1490-1492
Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of intravitreal perfluoro
propane gas injection to treat hypotony after cataract surgery. Settin
g: The ophthalmology department of a major tertiary medical center. Me
thods: After uneventful cataract extraction, 5 patients with hypotony
due to iridocyclitis, choroidal detachment, and serous retinal detachm
ent were treated with an intravitreal injection of 1.0 cc of perfluoro
propane gas. Results: The hypotony, choroidal detachment, and exudativ
e retinal detachment resolved in all 5 patients, and visual acuity imp
roved. No complications were observed. Conclusion: Intravitreal gas in
jection can be used to treat hypotony after cataract surgery in select
ed patients.
