Abstract
Migraine affects 18% of women and 6% of men each year in the United St ates. Migraine has a great impact on the quality of life and personal well-being of migraineurs, which can lead to excessive healthcare expe nditures and lost productivity. Migraine is often misdiagnosed and und ertreated. Use of diagnostic testing and evaluation can lead to approp riate treatment for the patient. Migraineurs often have coexisting neu rological, psychiatric, or medical disorders that need to be taken int o account before treatment can be initiated. Non-pharmacologic, acute, and preventive treatments are described, along with a 10-point checkl ist for diagnosis and treatment of migraine.
