S. Goncalves et al., PAIR-INTERACTION DEPENDENCE OF DOMAIN GROWTH IN BINARY FLUIDS, Modelling and simulation in materials science and engineering (Print), 6(5), 1998, pp. 671-680
We investigate domain growth in two-dimensional binary fluids at criti
cal volume concentrations undergoing phase separation after a quench t
o the unstable region of the phase diagram. The dynamic process is ana
lysed using molecular dynamics simulations with realistic interactions
between particles. The systems we simulate are characterized by symme
tric Lennard-Jones pair potentials with a reduced strength among unequ
al particles. We found that growth exponents at late times are depende
nt on the particular pair-interaction potential and on temperature. We
study this dependence numerically for two different pair potentials a
nd several temperatures. For very deep quenches the phase separation s
hows patterns in an aerogel structure where clusters coalesce in alter
nating A-B-A-B configurations at low densities and form 'spaghetti' fe
atures at higher densities.
