Abstract
Mercury(II) complex of 4,5-ethylenedithio-1,3-dithiole-2-thione (C5H4S 5), [Hg-2(C5H4S5)(2)Cl-4](n), was synthesized and characterized crysta llographically. It possesses the one-dimensional polymeric structure c omposed of centrosymmetric quasi-isolated binuclear subunits. The merc ury atoms in zigzag arrangement achieve five-coordination in a distort ed trigonal bipyramidal geometry by bonding to two bridging Cl, a term inal Cl, a thione S and a thioether S atom of C5H4S5. The S...S contac ts of 3.568(3)Angstrom between two nearby chains generate a two-dimens ional network. Through: S...S interactions of 3.583(3) Angstrom betwee n the two-dimensional layers, a three-dimensional supramolecular netwo rk is formed. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
