Abstract
Compound [Ta(Se-2)(2)](2)TaBr6 was prepared from elements by high temp erature (450 degrees C) stoichiometric reaction in high yield. The str ucture has been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. It con tains infinite positively charged chains Ta(Se-2)(2)... separated by o ctahedral TaBr6- anions. The slightly alternating Ta-Ta distances with in the chains [3.182(2)-3.234(2) Angstrom] show a considerable degree of metal-metal interaction along the chain. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd.
