Abstract
This review is concerned with the progress in the methods of structura l analysis of sulfated galactans isolated from the red seaweeds, inclu ding determination of monosaccharide constituents and partial depolyme rization by reductive hydrolysis, identification of disaccharide repea ting units by NMR spectroscopy, and sequence analysis by enzymatic deg radation. Examples of elucidation of primary structures for several co mplex sulfated galactans and xylogalactans are given. (C) 1998 Publish ed by Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
