Ya. Bogdanov et al., LITHOLOGICAL AND MINERALOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF BOTTOM SEDIMENTS INTHE NORWEGIAN SEA NEAR BEAR ISLANDS, Okeanologia (Moskva), 38(4), 1998, pp. 597-603
The Late Pleistocene and Holocene sediments were obtained during detai
led oceanographic works on the Eurasian continental slope in the Norwe
gian Sea (the nuclear submarine ''Komsomolets'' wreck site, depth -170
0 m). They were formed as a result of pelagic sedimentation (''particl
e by particle''). The signs of horizontal transport of sedimentary mat
erials with turbid currents and landslides were not observed. Main sou
rces of sedimentary material were invariable during Last Wurm Glaciati
on and Holocene. Some differences of mineral composition of bottom sed
iment high-disperse fractions were related to the change of input of t
he matter, which was included in the sedimentary fluxes by erosion and
differentiation of shelf sediment material.
