Two carbohydrate-functionalized silsesquioxanes 2 and 3 have been prep
ared by the reactions of (H2NCH2CH2CH2)(8)Si8O12 1 with eta-D-galactop
yranosyl-(1-->4)-D-gluco-1,5-lactone and lpha-D-glucopyranosyl-(1-->4)
-D-gluco-1,5-lactone; the latter (i.e. 3) possesses eight maltose-deri
ved substituents and binds with Concanavalin A, while the former posse
sses eight lactose-derived substituents that demonstrates selective bi
nding to the hepatic asialoglycoprotein receptor.
