Abstract
An improved lossless image coder is introduced which is based on subop timal, adaptive multiplicative autoregressive models. Basically the im provements result from the incorporation of three new elements: a back ward block-by-block parameter estimator, a probability model for the r esiduals, and a contextual entropy coder. The results of a comparative experimental study indicate that on average the improved coder delive rs similar to 7% higher compression than the old scheme.
