Abstract
A compact 1.5 mu m Er/Yb-doped double cladding fibre amplifier, diode side-pumped through an embedded v-groove, is demonstrated. A small sig nal gain of 47dB, an output power of 312mW and, separately, a noise fi gure of 4.5dB are measured.
