Abstract
The widespread expression of CD40 in normal epithelial cells and carci noma cells suggests that this receptor has important, additional influ ences beyond that of regulating immune responses. Here, Lawrence Young and colleagues discuss the effect of CD40 ligation on epithelial cell s and consider the role of this pathway in the pathogenesis and treatm ent of carcinomas.
