Pc. Greaves et al., LABIAL ADHESIONS AS A RESULT OF CAUSTIC VAGINITIS IN A POSTPARTUM PATIENT, Journal of gynecologic surgery, 14(3), 1998, pp. 129-131
Labial adhesions rarely occur in women of reproductive age. We present
a case occurring in a postpartum woman secondary to caustic vaginitis
from the application of ferric sub-sulfate to control bleeding. At po
stpartum examination, the patient complained of inability to have inte
rcourse. The examination revealed labial and vaginal adhesions that re
quired sharp separation with the patient under anesthesia. Healing was
aided by packing saturated in estrogen cream. A review of the literat
ure and recommendations for treatment are presented.
