Thirteen presentations given at a workshop held in November 1997, unde
r the sponsorship of The Princess Takamatsu Cancer Research Fund in Na
ra, Japan, are summarized. Topics include studies of initiation, promo
tion, and chemoprevention in animal models of pancreatic carcinogenesi
s, molecular and histopathologic studies of human carcinomas, and epid
emiologic studies. A recurring focus was to explore ways that knowledg
e of molecular mechanisms of carcinogenesis and molecular abnormalitie
s in carcinomas can guide approaches for prevention and treatment of p
ancreatic cancer.
