The available X-ray diffraction data of liquid ammonia at 4 degrees C
exhibit considerable symmetry in the intermolecular structure in spite
of hydrogen bonding. The intermolecular structure is modeled well by
a heptamer cluster close to that of the solid state. The model reprodu
ces reasonably well the available neutron diffraction and computer sim
ulation data for liquid ammonia.
