Rigorous formalisms are presented for the numerical solution of proble
ms of acoustic scattering by bounded obstacles in three dimensions. Th
ese methods are based on a perturbative technique recently demonstrate
d in problems of diffraction by gratings. Like those grating solvers,
these new bounded-obstacle algorithms can produce highly accurate solu
