Abstract
The alcohol barrel-equivalent price to gasoline in Brazil ranges from US$36.00 to 54.00. Without large subsidies, alcohol is ton costly as a n alternative to gasoline. In this paper, we demonstrate that signific ant cost reductions can be achieved through technological improvements , increased efficiency and the use of alcohol by-products.
