New neutral pentacoordinate nickel(II) complexes of the type [NiCl2(PR
3)((PN)-N-boolean AND)] [PR3 = PMe3, PMe2Ph, PMePh2; (PN)-N-boolean AN
D = 2-(diphenylphosphanyl)aniline ((PNH2)-N-boolean AND), N-methyl-2-(
diphenylphosphanyl)aniline ((PNHMe)-N-boolean AND), N,N-dimethyl-2-(di
phenylphosphanyl)aniline ((PNMe2)-N-boolean AND)], as well as cationic
tetracoordinate nickel(II) complexes of the type [NiCl(PR3)((PN)-N-bo
olean AND)](+) have been synthesized and characterized both in the sol
id state and in solution. Interesting X-ray structural data have been
collected for each class of compounds, which show, inter alia, that th
e pentacoordinate neutral complexes can be isolated in two different m
olecular forms, namely square-pyramidal or bipyramidal-trigonal.
