Calcination of kaolinite at 750 degrees C results in metakaolinite (MK
). Hydrothermal digestion of a slurry of MK and zinc oxide at similar
to 120 degrees C results in the formation of zinc exchanged zeolite A
in a single step. Addition of silica to the above system and digestion
results in zinc exchanged zeolite P. Thus, syntheses of two types of
zinc exchanged zeolites are obtained from clay.
