Diorganotin(IV) and diorganosilicon(IV) derivatives of the types R2MCL
(LI), R2MCL(L-2), R2M(L-1)(2) and R2M(L-2)(2) (where, R = phenyl or me
thyl, M = Sn or Si and L-1/L-2 = anions of the ligands) have been synt
hesized and characterized by elemental analyses, IR, H-1, C-13; Si-29
and Sn-119 NMR spectroscopy. These data support the binding of oxygen
to tin(IV) and silicon(IV) in R2MCl(L-1) and R2MCl(L-2) complexes with
a trigonal bipyramidal geometry. However, R2M(L1)2 and R2M(L2)2 compl
exes possess an octahedral geometry. The results of antimicrobial effe
cts of some representative complexes on different species of pathogeni
c fungi and bacteria have also been recorded and discussed.
