The electrophilic addition of [OsCl(NO)L-2](2+) [L = deprotonated quin
olin-8-ol (L-1), z = 0 and 2-(m-tolylazo)pyridine (L-2), z = 2] to alk
ylidenearylhydrazone, RCH=NNHPh (R = Me, Ph or C6H4Me-p), in MeCN cont
aining MeONa affords new complex of the type [OsAL(2)](n+) (A = anion
of arylazo oxime, RC(=NOH)N=NPh; n = 0 for L-1 and n = 1 for L-2]. An
alternative synthesis of [OsAL(2)](n+) has been carried out by the rea
ction of [OsCl2L2] with RC(=NOH)N=NPh: paramagnetic [OsAL(2)(1 )] and
diamagnetic [OsAL( 2)(2)](+) complexes have been characterised by phys
icochemical, megnetic and spectroscopic methods.
