In this note, we report a localized perturbation in the vibrational gr
ound state of O-18 substituted methanol as found from the analysis of
the high resolution Fourier transform far infrared (FTIR) spectrum. In
the course of detailed assignment work on the spectrum an interesting
localized perturbation was observed around J=19 levels of (n tau K)=(
019) state. This perturbation was seen to arise from an interaction wi
th the (n tau K)=(125) state. The perturbation has been characterized
by means of a simple two level approach. The interaction constant was
found to be equal to what was obtained for C-13 substituted methanol.
