Splenic artery aneurysms, once considered rare entities are now being
reported with increasing frequency. Due to a high incidence of fatal r
upture, they are considered dangerous. Rupture is often the first and
only symptom. With an increased index of suspicion and early aggressiv
e treatment of asymptomatic splenic artery aneurysms, mortality has dr
astically decreased. We present a case of an unusually largen asymptom
atic aneurysm which was treated surgically, and discuss incidence, pat
hophysiology, clinical presentation, evaluation and treatment.
