Turbulence measurements were obtained in a three-dimensional supersoni
c turbulent boundary layer. A 20 degrees curved fin was used to genera
te a three-dimensional compression of a boundary layer at Mach 3 in th
e absence of shock waves. Data include hot-wire measurements of five c
omponents of the Reynolds stress tensor. The results are interpreted i
n terms of the mean flow field history of the turbulence. It is demons
trated that in-plane curvature can have a strong stabilizing effect on
the turbulence.
