Abstract
The proton and carbon-13 spectra of seven 4-substituted 2',6'-dimethyl diphenyl sulphones (series 1) have been measured in CDCl3. Assignments of chemical shifts and correlations with benzene substituent induced chemical shifts, Hammett substituent parameters and dual substituent p arameters (DSP) have been made. Comparison of the correlation results of series 1 with those of 4-and 2-substituted diphenyl sulphones revea ls that the increase in steric congestion in the proximity of the sulp honyl group in the title series does not have significant influence on the extent of transmission of substituent effects.
