Abstract
Biosynthesis of chalepin 15 has been studied. Incorporation of 3-(1,1- dimethylallyl)-7-hydroxycoumarin in 15 indicates that it is the key in termediate for the biosynthesis of chalepin in Ruta graveolens. Utilis ation of gravelliferone 12 into chalepin supported the hypothesis that the origin of dihydrofuran moiety in chalepin, is via prenylation at Ca followed by oxidative cyclisation with neighbouring hydroxyl functi on.
