1-Oxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydrocarbazoles 1a-f on reaction with Vilsmeier Haa
ck reagent (DMF/POCl3) furnish the respective 1-chloro-2-formylcarbazo
le derivatives 2a-f which on treatment with hydrazine hydrate in ethan
ol yield pyrazolo[3,4-a]carbazole derivatives 3a-f. All the chloro for
myl compounds 2a-f have been tested for their antimalarial activity ag
ainst mosquito species and antimicrobial activities in comparison with
chloroamphenicol as a reference compound.
