A rapid test for the detection and semiquantitative determination of v
anadium(IV) and vanadium(V) was suggested. The analytes catalyze the r
eaction of p-diethylaminoaniline oxidation by bromate at pH 4-5. The d
etection limit of vanadium decreased in the presence of Ferron, which
enhances the catalytic effect of vanadium ions. Many metal ions caused
no interference with the determination of vanadium. Iron(LII) was mas
ked with fluoride. With the use of the rapid test proposed, the detect
ion limit of vanadium was 0.09 mg/L at a confidence level of 0.95; thi
s value is lower than half the maximum permissible concentration of va
nadium in bodies of water for domestic and sanitary use.
