Abstract
A combination of column chromatography on Toyopearl HW-40F gel and rev ersed-phase high-performance Liquid chromatography enabled us to prepa ratively separate anthocyanins, without any re-application of overlapp ing bands of the major (the 3-O-glucosides and 3-O-rutinosides of delp hinidin and cyanidin) and minor (the 3-O-rutinosides of peonidin and m alvidin) anthocyanins in a 0.81-g sample from blackcurrant (Ribes nigr um) fruits. Anthocyanins substituted with methoxyl groups on the aglyc one have never been detected previously in the genus Ribes. By variati on of sample loading, flow-rate and solvent strength, Toyopearl HW-40F gel gave rise to chromatograms with higher resolution between the ant hocyanidin 3-rutinoside and anthocyanidin 3-glucoside bands than Sepha dex LH-20 gel, in all cases.
