Abstract
We discuss the relation of the zeta-determinant of the Dirac operator on the interval to the canonical determinant, which appears naturally in this situation. This Letter is a pilot for papers in preparation on the zeta determinant defined on the infinite-dimensional Grassmannian of elliptic boundary problems for a Dirac operator in dimensions grea ter than one.
