Abstract
This study measures the quaternary salt concentration in a dichloromet hane (or chlorobenzene)/alkaline solution and determines the thermodyn amic equilibrium data. The true extraction constant, distribution coef ficient, dissociation constant in the aqueous phase and free energies of the true extraction constant, distribution coefficient and dissocia tion constant are obtained as well. The distribution coefficient incre ased and the real dissociation constant decreased with increasing NaOH concentration. The hydroxide ion concentration and the water content in the organic phase attain a maximum value when the NaOH concentratio n is around 6 M. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
