The need for a reassessment of nuclear magnetic dipole moments is prom
pted by recent experiments on the ground-state hyperfine structure in
highly charged hydrogenlike systems which are sufficiently sensitive t
o probe QED effects. This work gives an overview of the magnetic dipol
e moments for the nuclei of interest, i.e., Ho-165, Re-185,Re-187, Tl-
203,Tl-205, Pb-207, and Bi-209. It is found that the present uncertain
ties in the nuclear magnetic dipole moment limit the interpretation of
the accurate experimental hyperfine structures for these systems. [S1
