The highest possible minimal norm of a unimodular lattice is determine
d in dimensions n less than or equal to 33. There are precisely five o
dd 32-dimensional lattices with the highest possible minimal norm (com
pared with more than 8.10(20) in dimension 33). Unimodular lattices wi
th no roots exist if and only if n greater than or equal to 23, n not
equal 25. (C) 1998 Academic Press.
