Abstract
In a prospective study, 39 patients following aortic or mitral valve r eplacement underwent investigation of molecular markers (prothrombin f ragment F1+2, Factor II) in the initial phase of oral anticoagulation therapy (OAT). The results demonstrate that, despite INR being in the depicted range, the levels of the molecular markers remained high, ind icating an increased risk of thromboembolic events. This leads to the conclusion that molecular markers are superior to INR in the monitorin g of the early phase of OAT.
