Abstract
We report a case of severe respiratory failure in a young woman. Circu latory and respiratory instability failed to respond to inotropic medi cation, optimal PEEP and prone position. The use of echocardiography r apidly diagnosed a left atrial myxoma. Following the excision of the t umor, ventilatory and circulatory requirements improved dramatically.
