Trp. Freitas et al., PROSTAGLANDIN A(1) INHIBITS REPLICATION OF CLASSICAL SWINE FEVER VIRUS, Memorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 93(6), 1998, pp. 815-818
Prostaglandins (Pgs) have been shown to inhibit the replication of sev
eral DNA and RNA viruses. Here we report the effect of prostaglandin (
PgA(1)) on the multiplication of a positive strand RNA virus, Classica
l Swine Fever Virus (CSFV) in PK15 cells. PgA(1) was found to inhibit
the multiplication of CSFV. At a concentration of 5 mu g/ml, which was
nontoxic to the cells, PgA(1) inhibitis virus production in 99%. In P
gA(1) treated cells the size and number of characteristic Classical Sw
ine Fever focus decreased in amount.
