Abstract
An analysis of a deformation process in dynamic models is presented, w here time is considered as the essential part. A rigorous adjustment m odel of unregularly spanned observations in space and time is proposed for the estimation of point velocities and strain rate parameters. Th e problem of the reference frame definition and choices of deformation models are discussed. Finally an application is given in order to ill ustrate the method, using real data from GPS observations at the geody namically unstable area of the Ionian Sea. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B .V.
