This overview summarizes the main salmonella serotypes in 1997 from li
vestock in Belgium. Typhimurium and Dublin were the most frequently fo
und serotypes in cattle, whereas mainly Typhimurium was isolated from
pigs. In poultry Enteritidis and Radar were the most prevalent serotyp
es, although the number of serotypes. Radar strains was found to be de
creasing in comparison, vith previous years. The resistance profiles of
serotypes Typhimurium isolates suggested that the highly pathogenic l
ysotype DT104 was widely spread among livestock in Belgium. Almost all
serotypes enteritidis strains were sensitive against all antimicrobia
l agents tested.
