We discuss the analogy between nondispersive wave packets in periodica
lly driven hydrogen atoms and solitons as solitary wave solutions of n
onlinear dynamical systems. Whereas the wave packet eigenstates should
not be considered as solitons propagating in real space, they are sho
wn to display the essential features of solitonic solutions as they pr
opagate through the irregular lattice of quasienergy levels evolving w
ith a fictitious time like the strength or the frequency of the drivin
g force.
