Abstract
A numerically simple filter fcr reducing ringing noise in transform co ded images is proposed. The filter adapts to the local image character istics and has been specifically designed to amend the current deblock ing filter in H.263. It is shown that by adding the proposed filter bo th subjective and objective image quality improve.
