Abstract
Physical scratches on 2in video tapes cause severe degradation in view able picture quality. A new algorithm for locating these defects is pr esented, based on the way in which the data are mapped onto the tape a nd how the scratches affect corresponding image pixels. Also. the mapp ing onto tape results in optimal image feature presentation, i.e. only the features affected by the scratch are processed.
